Emergency Financial Assistance

Martin County offers emergency financial assistance to help low-income residents with payment of bills for electricity, water, and rent. If you have a delinquent bill and meet federal poverty level guidelines, you may qualify for assistance. Below are the details of the available programs.

Financial Assistance Programs

Lend a Hand Program

Experiencing a temporary financial hardship? Martin County's Lend a Hand Program can help qualifying Martin County Utilities customers who are experiencing a financial hardship pay their water bill. Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a resident of Martin County
  • Must be a customer of Martin County Utilities
  • Must be below 300% of the federal poverty level
  • Must have a crisis preventing payment
  • Maximum assistance amount: $400 per quarter (subject to fund availability)
  • You can apply for assistance once every 90 days

Care to Share Program

Assists Martin County residents with past-due or final notice bills from Florida Power & Light (FPL).

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a resident of Martin County.
  • Must meet the income threshold as specified in Table 1.1 (included in the application).
  • Must have a past-due or final notice FPL bill.
  • Must have a crisis preventing payment.
  • Must have a plan to pay future bills.
  • Maximum assistance amount: $750
  • You can only apply for assistance once every 12 months.
